Consumers prefer shopping directly from their favorite brands

According to a survey ... customers have indicated a clear preference when it comes to shopping directly from their favorite brands ... an overwhelming 88 percent of consumers who were surveyed said they would prefer to buy directly from brands, and 82 percent said they expected such options would be available to them.

This is consistent with the experience of many retailers I've talked to, who are losing sales to their own suppliers. I've even heard stories of people using local, independent retailers as fitting rooms, only to buy goods directly from suppliers online after they determine their sizing.

I expect as marketplaces like Amazon get more popular in Australia, brands will double-down on undercutting their stockists and chase pure-play DTC.
